BIOGRAPHY Patrick Marie-Magdelaine comes from Guyana in South America. Born in France, he has played with numerous musicians on the European and African scene. He worked with Ugandan singer Geoffrey Oryema, Sweedish Saxophonist Sofi Hellborg and he spent 12 years touring around the world and recording with famous Congolese Singer Papa Wemba. From the Blue Note Club in Tokyo to the Summer Stage in New York, the New Morning and Bercy in Paris... In 1994, he was playing with Papa Wemba’s Molokai as the opening band for Peter Gabriel’s World Tour. Patrick Marie-Magdelaine has spent the last 3 years experimenting a more personnal sound : a lyrical jazz inspired by calypso lullabies, son music from Cuba, merengue, boleros and Brazilian bossa nova. All the Caribean melodies he heard in his childhood. Bass player Joel Dobat enabled him to explore this new feel on stage in Parisian Jazz Clubs with pianist Alain Jean Marie, and percussionist Arnold Moueza. For his first album CARIBBEAN COOL JAZZ , Patrick Marie-Magdelaine offers a repertoire of originals with a few jazz standards remastered with his special touch : a mix of his varied music experience and his Caribean origins. He has composed this Caribean jazz for a smooth and spacious sounding guitar, accompanied by pianist Tom McClung and the wicked rythms of bass player Guy Nsague, percussionist Arnold Moueza and drummer Lukmill Perez.
